A strong emphasis on fixing the existing plan meant clear planning of circulation through the house
The original house was confusing to move through, so one of the main changes was to make it easier to navigate. We did this by demolishing interior walls to make long connected vistas through the house, and in the entry to make a view through to the harbour beyond from the initial entry, enticing you to move through the space into the heart of the house.
A small cantilever return of the bench top allows for a key drop, and pulls you into the kitchen.
The Kitchen becomes the central point of the house which all other spaces are arranged around. An adults Den beyond provides a quiet space at night time.
View from Den back through to Dining Room. Two vaulted spaces, one original from a 70’s addition and the new Dining extension are combined by way of the dropped ceiling over the Kitchen.
A credit to builders Buildlab for their attention to detail and their drive to get things perfect.
View back to Kitchen & Den beyond along created access way, connecting visually and making movement through house much easier.
